Privacy
Short version: we collect only what you type into the search form and your email address, use it only to make and deliver your report, and delete it 12 months after delivery. No ads, no selling, no tracking cookies.
What we collect
- Search details you enter (name, branch, places, relatives and so on) and your email.
- Abuse-prevention data: a one-way hash of your IP address, kept for daily rate limits and discarded after 2 days.
- "Email me when searches open" sign-ups: your email (and optional name and veteran's name), used only for one opening announcement and deleted afterwards.
- Anonymous page counts: page path and referring site only, counted per day. No cookies, no IP address, no fingerprinting, and no third-party analytics.
What we never do
- Ask for, or store, a Social Security number.
- Use people-search or data-broker sites, or show addresses or phone numbers in reports.
- Sell or share your data, or send marketing email.
- Make a report public without the family's opt-in.
Living veterans
If the veteran is living, we ask you to confirm that this is you or that you have their permission. Only public sources are searched, and the report is private.
Retention
Search inputs are deleted 12 months after the report is delivered. Reports can be deleted sooner on request through the form on the report, or see corrections & takedowns.
We send three kinds of message: a confirmation link, a "report ready" message, and replies to your corrections. Delivery uses a transactional email provider.
